Manchester resident Alexei Avakov won the 100-meter breaststroke at the Toyota USA Swimming National Championships on Saturday in Irvine, California.

Avakov, an Indiana University junior, won the event in 58.87 seconds, tying Cody Miller for the sixth-fastest time in the event by an American.

Last March, Avakov earned All-America honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with his sixth-place time (50.58) at the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

In high school, Avakov competed for Manchester Central and attended The Founders Academy. As a senior, he set both the NHIAA and University of New Hampshire pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.24) at the 2024 NHIAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.
