Magic Johnson has given his verdict on the sudden takeover of the Los Angeles Lakers, with some interesting insight into Bob Iger.
Magic Johnson is synonymous with the Los Angeles Lakers. As the legendary point guard of the 1980s Showtime era, he led the franchise to five NBA championships.
He later served as team president and remains the ultimate ambassador.
His word carries weight in Los Angeles because he never shies away from holding the organization accountable. Whether praising roster moves or publicly calling out poor effort during tough playoff stretches, Magic speaks directly for Laker Nation and every fan listens.
So his assessment of the new Lakers owners, Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, will certainly come as a good surprise, with many skeptical of the direction the franchise will head in under the pair.
Magic Johnson reacts to news of $12.5 billion LA Lakers takeover
Taking to his personal X account, Magic Johnson spoke very highly of Bob Iger, as well as predicting that he and Josh Kushner will deliver championships once again in Los Angeles.
‘Laker fans, you couldn’t have two better owners. I’ve known Bob personally for over 40 years – he has always loved the Lakers and basketball and he will bring championships back to LA.’
Magic and Iger first connected during the 1980s Showtime era. As the former starred for the Lakers, Iger was rising through ABC Sports as vice president of programming.
Their paths crossed across sports media, broadcasting networks, and Los Angeles business and entertainment circles for decades.
