Madison Central's Tanner Nichols has been selected as the Gatorade Mississippi Boys Soccer Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season, Gatorade announced on June 12.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior forward led the Jaguars to a 21-0-2 record this season and a second consecutive MHSAA Class 7A state championship with a 2-0 win over Biloxi.

Nichols scored 20 goals and recorded nine assists this year and ended his high school career with 33 goals and 16 assists.

“Tanner is a vocal on-field leader and works as hard as anyone offensively and defensively to create chances for his team," Jackson Academy coach Phil Buffington said in a press release. "I coach him in club play as well, and he pretty much never comes off the field for me on that team.”

Nichols is a Meridian College soccer signee and was a First Team All-State selection.

Nichols joins recent Gatorade Mississippi boys soccer players of the year Aiden Boudro (2023-25, Bay), Connor Dunnigan (2022-23, St. Andrew's Episcopal), Luke Hopkins (2021-22, Clinton) and Emery Thigpen (2020-21, Jackson Academy).
