Bridgewater Little League is one game away from history.

With a decisive 11-1 victory over Vermont in 5 innings on Monday, Aug. 10, Bridgewater advanced to play in the Little League New England Regional championship game, which will air on ESPN at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13. Bridgewater will play the winner of the second semifinal between Maine and Vermont on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The New England regional winner advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn. Bridgewater is playing for its first-ever LLWS berth.

“It’s (been) a crazy ride. We hope to finish it out,” said Bridgewater manager Tim Zackrison.

Bridgewater won its opening game of the regional 7-0 against Maine on Saturday, Aug. 8. The team has out scored its opponents 18-1 in the first two games.

Bridgewater again got production up and down its 12-man lineup on Monday, and also received a stellar pitching performance from Luke Schlatz. Schlatz had a no-hit bid going into the fifth inning. He finished with one hit allowed and one earned run in five innings of work to get the win.

“He’s locked in. He puts a lot of hard work into it. He just keeps coming through and he’s as consistent as they come,” said Zackrison.

Offensively, Bridgewater racked up 11 runs on 13 hits. Once again, the offensive explosion was started by Dominik Mombeleur. In his first at-bat, Mombeleur crushed a solo home run over the left-field fence for the start of a four-run first inning for Bridgewater. It’s his second home run of the regional tournament and eighth since the Massachusetts District 7 tournament.

“It was a bomb,” said Schlatz on Mombeleur’s home run.

Bridgewater knocked in four more runs in the third, and three in the fifth. RJ Zackrison hit a ground ball to second, but Jude DeSimone beat the throw home to end the game via the run rule.

DeSimone led the team with three RBIs on two hits. RJ Zackrison had two RBIs.

Schlatz, Callan Goodwin (RBI), and Cam Hutchinson (RBI) also added two hits a piece. Bridgewater struck out just twice on the day.
