Lucas Herbert has etched his name in the history books with a dominant performance Friday, July 17 in the second round of the 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

The Australian fired a blistering 28 on his front nine with eight birdies.

The 30-year-old's 6-under-par 28 in the first nine not only propelled him to the top of the Open Championship leaderboard, but also tied a long-standing record set by Denis Durnian, who achieved the same feat on Royal Birkdale’s front nine during the second round of the 1983 Open.

Herbert has maintained his aggressive approach on the back nine, already adding two more birdies to his tally. Now sitting at 8-under for the tournament, he remains firmly atop the leaderboard and is poised to finish the day as the man to beat.
