LSU football cornerback Mansoor Delane has been at or near the top of the cornerback rankings for the upcoming NFL Draft for months now, jostling with Tennessee’s Jermod McCoy for the No. 1 spot. He had one of the best seasons of any Power Four cornerback in 2025, ranking second in PFF coverage grade and third in PFF defense grade on the year.
The only reason he isn’t consistently found in the top 10 of NFL Draft big boards is his non-elite athleticism and reportedly poor wingspan. Despite these concerns, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler actually bumped Delane up on his latest top 100 Big Board, with the former Tiger landing at No. 7.
This is a massive leap for Delane, who ranked 19th on Brugler’s top 50 published back in November. Here’s what Brugler had to say about his newly-minted No. 1 cornerback in the draft:
“Though he doesn’t have elite length or athletic upside, Delane is fluid to open and has enough speed to stay in phase against either vertical or in-breaking routes,” Brugler wrote. “He is instinctive in coverage and understands down and distance, which allows him to settle and close without any wasted or panicked movements — he allowed zero touchdowns and committed zero penalties in 2025. Delane is easy to project as a starter, regardless of scheme or alignment.”
Brugler’s player rankings are typically predictive, often drawing on what he hears from NFL scouts and applying it to his work. That’s also true of NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, who had the New York Giants select Delane with the fifth overall pick in his latest mock draft. Reading the tea leaves, it appears the former Tiger may come off the board very early when April rolls around.
