LSU baseball shortstop Steven Milam isn't going anywhere. On Friday, Milam revealed plans to return to LSU for year four, turning down a chance to enter the 2026 MLB Draft.

Milam's decision is monumental news for the Tigers. Milam is a three-year starter and was arguably the best defensive shortstop in the SEC this year. Milam was a bright spot on a team that didn't have many.

"From the moment I stepped on campus, LSU became my home. The culture, the legacy, the tradition. This program has given me memories I'll carry forever, but I know I'm not done yet. And when I thought about the next chapter, one thing became clear: I want another shot. Another shot at leaving my mark, to go out my way and hold that trophy in Omaha," Milam said in a video released to social media.

As 2026 came to a close for LSU, Milam wasn't an obvious candidate to return. With his production over three years and his defensive skills, an MLB team would have taken a flier on the New Mexico native.

But Milam also didn't have the same draft profile as LSU teammates Derek Curiel or Jake Brown, who both project to be top-100 picks. That gave Milam room to make a choice.

We don't know everything that went into Milam's decision-making, but the mixed MLB Draft outlook, paired with Milam's drive to finish his business in Baton Rouge, was enough to secure his return.
