LSU baseball secured its first transfer portal addition of the 2026 cycle. Landon Hood, a right-handed pitcher from Gonzaga, has committed to the Tigers. Hood was a breakout freshman for the Zags in 2026 and now gets the chance to play college baseball at the highest level.

Hood appeared in 16 games and made four starts, tossing 54.1 innings with a 2.48 ERA. He stands at 6-foot-3 and features a strong fastball/change-up combination. Hood's fastball sits in the upper 90s. Hood posted a strong strikeout-to-walk ratio, striking out 78 while walking 21.

Hood fit the exact profile of what LSU was looking for in the portal. A proven high-leverage reliever, also capable of starting if called upon. LSU's pitching staff was inconsistent in 2026 and lacked depth.

PORTAL COMMIT: @LSUbaseball lands a big-time portal commitment from former Gonzaga RHP Landon Hood, I'm told. Hood, 6-3, 200, finished 2026 with 78 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work. He is up to 96-97 w/ FB w/ a strong 53% whiff rate on an upper-70s CH. Nice get #LSU.

Because Hood was only a freshman in 2026, there's a chance LSU gets multiple years from the transfer.

LSU is expected to be active in the transfer portal after missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011. Hood is just the start of what figures to be a strong haul for Jay Johnson and Co.
