Jay Johnson promised that what happened in 2026 would never happen again. On Sunday morning, Jason Wachs announced on his Instagram that he has committed to LSU through the transfer portal.

Wachs is an outfielder that spent the first two years of his career just 80 miles east down I-10 at Tulane. As a Florida native, LSU had to fight off the likes of Miami, Florida, and Florida St to secure the commitment. Nonetheless, the incoming junior is Alex Box bound to join Bino Watters as Johnson is faced with potentially replacing his entire starting outfield.

Coming off of a fantastic freshman year in 2025 in which he started in 51 games, Wachs hit .335, scored 46 runs, totaled 18 extra base hits, and drove in 25 RBIs, he was selected as a preseason All-Conference selection for the American Conference.

Although his average dipped slightly to .327, the rest of his hitting statistics took a nice jump in 2026. The sophomore delivered 48 runs, 54 RBIs, 21 doubles, and 9 homeruns. He also boasted a .453 on base percentage, drawing 38 BBs and 12 HBPs.

Wachs and Watters will likely fill the two corner outfield spots, as LSU waits to see what the draft holds for Derek Curiel and Jake Brown.
