Have you found your enthusiasm waning for those fitness goal you set for 2026? You aren't alone.
Jan. 9 is recognized as National Quitters Day. A mere eight days after most people embark on a new year's resolution, about 80% have stopped by the second Friday in January.
If you've found yourself in a rut and eager for a reason to put a little pep back in your step, get ready for the 41st annual Louisville Triple Crown of Running presented by the Courier Journal and sponsored by the University of Louisville.
The newly announced sponsorship means an additional shorter race has been added to the lineup and the 10 mile races has a new name — The University of Louisville 10 Mile.
Held on Saturday, April 4, The University of Louisville 10 Mile starts outside historic Churchill Downs Racetrack, 700 Central Ave., and finishes on the 50 yard line at the L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.

This year’s event also introduces a new 8K distance. The addition celebrates Louisville pride and Cardinal tradition while offering a shorter, fast-paced option for runners seeking a spirited race-day experience. Families can also participate in Louie's Dash, a kids' run designed to inspire the next generation of runners and Cards fans.
“In our athletic department, we believe our role extends well beyond competition,” UofL’s Vice President and Director of Athletics Josh Heird said in a release. “Supporting events like the University of Louisville 10-Mile is part of our broader commitment to community wellness here in Louisville — creating opportunities for people to move, connect, and build healthy habits.”
The day of racing that include The University of Louisville 10 Miler, 8K and Louie Dash are part of the annual Louisville Triple Crown of Running, which also includes the Whiskey Row 5K on Saturday, March 7 and the Derby City 10K held Saturday, March 21.

New for 2026, The Coronet medal rewards participants who complete the secondary distance of each event within the Triple Crown of Running: Whiskey Row 5K, the Derby City 10K's 5K, and University of Louisville 10 Mile's 8K.
“We are thrilled to welcome the University of Louisville as the title sponsor of our 10-mile race and to expand race weekend with new distances that welcome even more participants,” said Dan Lakin, race director of the Louisville Triple Crown of Running.
