With the college baseball season halfway in the books, Baseball America has released its first-ever midseason national awards watch lists. Two Longhorns made the list in pitchers Ruger Riojas and Sam Cozart. The honor comes as no surprise, given how good Cozart and Riojas have been as Texas has recorded a 26-5 record through 31 games.

While leading the Longhorns rotation, Riojas has posted a 2.74 ERA in eight starts. The Texas native has struck out a career-high 68 batters and held opponents to a .224 batting average. With the MLB Draft looming, Riojas has boosted his stock and taken his game to another level.

As Riojas has mowed down hitters, Cozart has been one of the best freshmen in the country. In 30.1 innings, the North Carolina native has posted a 2.08 ERA and struck out 41 batters. Every time Cozart has been on the mound, he has given Texas a chance to win and shown no signs of slowing down.

Although Cozart and Riojas are focusing on winning a national title, they will also be watching how the watch list plays out. Riojas was named to the watch list for the College Pitcher of the Year Award, while Cozart was named to the watch list for the Freshman of the Year Award. The four finalists in each category will be revealed on May 27.

Although a lot can change over the next few weeks, the Longhorns are poised for a deep playoff run. That is partly because they have Riojas and Cozart in their rotation. They have also gotten some help from Dylan Volantis, who has been stellar in his first season as a starter.

If Cozart and Riojas can continue their success, then they could have a reason to celebrate when Baseball America reveals its winners later this summer.
