The Philadelphia Phillies drafted Texas baseball right-handed pitcher Ruger Riojas on Saturday with the 100th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2026 MLB Draft.
Riojas recorded a 3.97 earned run average as a senior in 2026, striking out 120 batters and walking 36 in 81⅔ innings. He spent his first two years at UTSA before transferring to Texas and developing under pitching coach Max Weiner.

Riojas came to the Longhorns as a reliever, eventually earning a spot in the starting rotation. His form faded in the back half of the 2025 season due to illness, but he recovered and returned better than ever. The MLB.com scouting report states that Riojas' fastball tops out at 98 miles per hour. He combines that with an offspeed arsenal of a splitter, cutter, slider and curveball.
Riojas' final performance as a Longhorn was stellar. Facing elimination in the CWS, the veteran struck out seven batters and held Alabama to two runs in six innings.
