DANVILLE — The Danville Iron’s inaugural season is now in view.
The Iron announced their season schedule on Wednesday, along with the dates for its first home matchups.
Danville will spend most of the first month of the season on the road. The Iron’s first game will be on Sept. 26 against the Chicago T-Rex. They will also play in the Chicago Showcase from Sept. 28-Oct. 4 and will have away series with Flint Islanders and the Fresh Coast Freeze.
The Iron’s first game at the David S. Palmer Arena will be on Oct. 25, when they will host the Cincinnati Cyclones. They will spend November on the road before coming back to a December full of home games with series against the Metro Jets, Cyclones and Islanders.
The Iron also announced on Wednesday that season tickets are available. Contact Jessica Mitchell at [email protected] for more information.
Adams hits hole in one
DANVILLE — Phil Adams hit a hole-in-one last week at Danville Country Club on the third hole.
Adams used a 5 wood at the 177-yard hole and it was witnessed by Chris Crawford and Zack Girton.
DCC hosts junior open
DANVILLE — The Danville Country Club hosted its junior open last week.
In the 18-hole boys division, Jase Latoz and Jack Swingler tied for first with a 73; Alex Hakman was third (75); Max Clausen took fourth (76); Cy Tuggle was fifth (82); Jeremy McCoy and Eathan Calvert was tied for sixth (83); Ryder Burns took eighth (84); Eizen Pyle, Lucas McNeely and Andrew Wright each tied for ninth (86); and Will Fowler was 12th (87).
Waylon Miethe (51) took first in the 9-hole boys with Alex Drake taking second (54), Brady Wocher was third (55), Everett Drake was fourth (56), Cooper Mcelhoe took fifth (61) and Karter Neal was sixth (64)
Ellie Pasco was the only girl shooting 18 holes and she ended up with a 131, while Audrey Elliott took first in 9-hole girls with a 46, beating out Ava Donaldson’s 47 and Cam Wochner’s 53.
Illini named to Platform Awards
The Illinois men’s golf program was recognized Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for its success in the classroom when the organization announced its 2025-26 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards.
The PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards honor programs across all collegiate levels – NCAA Divisions I, II, and III; NAIA; and NJCAA Divisions I and II – that record a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. A record total of 331 programs were honored across all six divisions.
The Fighting Illini, coached by Danville native Mike Small, also earned the added distinction of being one of 88 NCAA Division I programs to earn the 2025-26 Presidents Special Recognition for having a team GPA of 3.5 or better.
