CHAMPAIGN — University of Illinois head golf coach and Danville native Mike Small announced the schedule for the team on Thursday.
“Each year we strive to put together a schedule that really challenges the team – both mentally and physically – as we grow and prepare for the postseason, and I’m very excited about this year’s tournament lineup,” Small said. “We will consistently compete on top-rated courses against the best teams in college golf, including hosting the 20th playing of our own premier event at Olympia Fields. I’m also very excited to once again host the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate at Atkins Golf Club. This schedule will give us every opportunity to reach our team goals, and I can’t wait to get back on the course with this team.”
The season starts with the Sahalee Players Championship in Washington and the 20th annual OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Field in September and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic and the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational in Mississippi in October.
The rest of the season will start in February and will roll into the Big Ten Championship in April and NCAA regional play in May.
The women’s team announced their schedule on Friday.
Renfro named to Rimington list
Illinois center Jake Renfro has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Rimington Trophy, released Thursday by the Rimington Trophy Committee.
Renfro is one of 40 players listed among the top centers in college football entering the 2026 season. The Big Ten leads the way with 13 honorees. He is he first Illini to appear on the Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List since Doug Kramer in 2021.
Illini to appear twice on BTN
The Big Ten Network (BTN) announced their broadcast schedule for the upcoming 2026 soccer season on Thursday.
Illinois, who are coming into the season ranked No. 9 in the Big Ten preseason poll, will appear on BTN two times this season. First, on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. playing host to Saint Louis, and next the Illini travel to Big Ten preseason No. 7 USC on Oct. 8 at 9:30 p.m.
