ROCK HILL, S.C. — High Point University lost 92-75 against Winthrop in Big South Conference men’s basketball Wednesday in Winthrop Coliseum.

Terry Anderson scored 17 points to lead the Panthers (16-4 overall, 4-1 conference), who were without leading scorer Cam’Ron Fletcher for the fourth straight game. Rob Martin added 14 points, while Owen Aquino and Chase Johnston each followed with nine points.

High Point shot 39% from the field for the game — including 33% in the first half in falling behind by 25 and trailing 53-29 at halftime. The Eagles (12-8, 4-1), led by Logan Duncomb with 28 points, shot 54% — including 63% in the first half. They finished with a notable edge in second-chance points, 17-6.

The Panthers got as close as 14 in the second half in snapping their 18-game conference winning streak.

High Point will play again Saturday against USC Upstate in the Qubein Center at 7 p.m.

GILES EARNS CONFERENCE TRACK HONOR

HIGH POINT — High Point University’s Ashlyn Giles has been selected this week’s Big South Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Giles broke her own program record in her second meet as a Panther in the shot put at the Tryon International Collegiate Opener. Her throw of 15.43m won the event and set a record by 0.43m. She also competed in the weight throw, placing third at 15.32m.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, SOUTHERN ALAMANCE

GRAHAM — Southwest Guilford topped Southern Alamance 67-57 in nonconference boys’ basketball Wednesday at Southern Alamance.

Darrell Howze had 20 points and four steals to lead the Cowboys (11-3), who outscored the Patriots by 12 in the final quarter. Brayden Gatling added 19 points and eight assists, while Wesley Oxce had 11 points and seven rebounds.

In the girls’ game, Southwest won 54-36 to improve to 12-2. Alyson Webb and Mckenzie Moore each scored 13 points. Courtney Lee had seven rebounds, while Moore and Star Hughes each had six. Webb led with three assists and four steals.

AT MOUNT TABOR

WINSTON-SALEM — Oak Grove defeated Mount Tabor 78-3 in wrestling Wednesday at Mount Tabor.

Dylan Griffin (106, forfeit), Ayden Minor (113, forfeit), Evan Crofts (120, forfeit), Peyton MacFarland (126, forfeit), Brady Smith (132, fall), Gavin Murray (138, forfeit), Reece Christensen (144, fall), Corben Boyd (150, fall), Trevor Hamilton (157, forfeit), Brice Baker (165, forfeit), Jacob Hillis (175, forfeit), Coleman Annas (190, forfeit) and Jacob Wimer (215, forfeit) won for the Grizzlies.

On the girls’ side, Oak Grove won 42-6 against Mount Tabor. Samantha Reed (114, forfeit), Taylor Walser (120, forfeit), Bella Willson (126, forfeit), Shiloh Beauchamp (132, forfeit), Ally Mock (138, forfeit), Kelsey Thomas (145, forfeit) and Vonna Cartrette (235, forfeit) won for the Grizzlies.

AT WESTERN GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Western Guilford beat Ragsdale 54-27 in wrestling Wednesday at Western.

Hake Cyrus (126, fall), Brayan Machuca (132, fall), Sangam Pradhan (138, dec 14-9), Henry Davis (144, forfeit) and Carson Parker (120, forfeit) won for the Tigers.

On the girls’ side, Ragsdale defeated Western 24-12. Liza Paw (126, forfeit), Amari Mclearly (132, fall), Farrah Smith (138) and Elisabeth Farley (165, fall) won for the Tigers.

AT NORHTEAST GUILFORD

McLEANSVILLE — Northeast Guilford defeated Southern Guilford 36-24 in wrestling Wednesday at Northeast.

Wade Chase (138, fall), Jaquaine Mouzon Jr. (144, forfeit), Christian Johnson (157, fall) and Alex Anderson (165, fall) won for the Storm.

AT LEDFORD

WALLBURG — Ledford beat Lexington 60-21 in wrestling Wednesday at Ledford.
