MENOMONIE — For the first time in program history, the UW-Stout Blue Devils are WIAC Tournament champions in men’s hockey.
No. 10 UW-Stout erased an early deficit and held off a furious late push from rival UW-River Falls to claim a 5–4 victory Saturday night at the Fanetti Community Center.
The Blue Devils (21-5-1) secured the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2008-09.
Stout tied the game 1-1 in the second when Nicolas Pigeon scored on a rebound.
Just 15 seconds later, Noah Tyrrell broke tapped home a shot to give the Blue Devils their first lead at 2-1.
Stout added another key goal in the final minute. Felix Cadieux-Fredette sent a shot from the point that William Schofield redirected on goal, and Sidarovich pounced on the rebound to extend the advantage to 3-1.
The Blue Devils carried the momentum into the third. Nicholas Stevens delivered with a goal to push the lead to 4-1.
The Blue Devils’ defense held firm down the stretch, denying several late chances to secure the historic championship win.

Blugolds punch ticket to NCGA Nationals
WINONA, Minn. — The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team has punched their ticket to the NCGA National Championship for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The championship berth comes off a season that saw multiple broken program records at the WIAC Championships Saturday night, and head coach Jessie DeZiel being named WIAC Coach of the Year.
UWEC’s consistent strength, the beam, continued to be a driving factor Saturday. An event led by depth saw the team score a 48.500, led by Hareet Gehlon’s 9.775.
On the uneven bars, the Blugolds saw Cadence Cordova score a 9.650. The Blugolds put up a team score of 47.800 on vault, with Cadence Cordova leading the way scoring 9.650.
Lastly, on the floor, the team scored a 48.075. Hanna Riha led the team with a score of 9.750.
SOFTBALL
Blugolds combine for 27 runs in sweep
UW-Eau Claire secured a commanding doubleheader victory over Augsburg University (2-5) on Saturday, winning 8-0 and 19-1 at home.
UW-Eau Claire improves to 5-3.
Lauren Trottier pitched a complete game shutout in Game 1.
Norah Kutnink led the UW-Eau Claire offense by hitting a home run and collecting three RBIs. Claire Beck added two RBIs with a double.
In the second game, UW-Eau Claire connected for five home runs and recorded 19 RBIs.
Kasey Felden delivered a stellar performance for UW-Eau Claire, pitching four innings with only one earned run on one hit.
Molly Marquardt led the offensive charge in the second game with a home run and four RBIs. Beck added two home runs.
