The 2026 MIAA Division 1 softball championship is upon us, and it pits a pair of very familiar Hockomock League foes against each other.
On one side is No. 1 Taunton High (23-1, 13-0 Hockomock), the back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back MIAA Division 1 champions and one of Massachusetts' most decorated programs across all high school sports. The Tigers are going for an 11th overall title with a hard-hitting roster loaded with college-committed talent.
On the other side is No. 3 Attleboro High (18-6, 11-5 Hockomock) in its first-ever championship game. Once a perennial afterthought, having gone 2-18 to finish dead last in the Hockomock Kelley-Rex a decade ago, the Blue Bombardiers have been a program on a rapid rise the past few years. One of the strongest fielding teams in the state, it also possesses a potent lineup and an experienced UMass Dartmouth-bound senior pitcher in the circle.
With first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m., dependent on how long the earlier Division 5 and Division 2 title games run, at Rockwood Field adjacent to Worcester State University, follow along throughout the game for live updates:
The Tigers took both of their regular season contests against the Bombardiers. On March 30 at Jack Tripp Field, Taunton came away with a 5-0 shutout win in eighth grade pitcher Ella Parece's first complete game.
The rematch at AHS on May 8 was a much closer affair, with the Tigers fighting off a Bombardier comeback effort to seal an 8-7 win.
Taunton was awarded the top seed and took down No. 33 Newton South 17-1 in the Round of 32, No. 16 Braintree 10-6 in the Round of 16, No. 8 Newton North 12-2 in the Elite Eight and No. 4 Shrewsbury 9-2 in the Final Four.
Attleboro was awarded the No. 3 seed and beat No. 30 Weymouth 20-6 in the Round of 32, intracity rivals No. 14 Bishop Feehan 7-1 in the Round of 16, No. 11 Bridgewater-Raynham 10-0 in the Elite Eight and No. 2 Central Catholic 5-4 in 11 innings across two days in the Final Four.
