are those books still "beloved"...I mean, back when I was in grade school pretty much every girl in school read them around fourth and fifth grade or so. But do people still read them? Do they read anything?

I am interested in giving this a shot but I honestly dont thin a show on this subject matter will survive long in the modern world. I will be surprised if it gets two full seasons.
