On Friday, Taylor Decker announced he had requested his release from the Detroit Lions.

Three days later, the Lions fulfilled Decker's wishes.

Decker was formally released by the team Monday, ending his 10-year tenure that included 140 starts and three trips to the postseason. Decker, 32, was openly contemplating retirement after the 2025 season. He announced Feb. 24 that he was returning for an 11th season, but explained on Friday how there were since "numerous discussions" between himself and the team, "many of which were a surprise to me, and we could not find common ground."

"Thank you for a decade of Grit, Taylor," the Lions posted on social media.

Releasing Decker creates $11.6 million in cap savings for 2026, though there's now a starting hole for the Lions to fill at one of their tackle spots, opposite of Penei Sewell. The Lions on Monday agreed to terms with two offensive linemen, in center Cade Mays from the Carolina Panthers and tackle Larry Borom from the Miami Dolphins.

Borom started 11 games with the Dolphins last season, all at right tackle. Other tackles on Detroit's roster include Giovanni Manu and Devin Cochran.
