The Detroit Lions have been awarded a fifth-round compensatory pick to add to their war chest for April's NFL Draft.
The league announced Monday, two days before the start of the new league year, a total of 33 compensatory picks for 15 teams. Comp picks are awarded by the league to compensate teams that lost more than they gained in the previous free-agent period and are determined by a formula based on player salary, playing time, and postseason honors.
The Lions were awarded pick No. 181 in this year's draft after losing cornerback Carlton Davis III, safety Ifeatu Melifonwu and right guard Kevin Zeitler while adding cornerback D.J. Reed and defensive tackle Roy Lopez.
The Lions previously owned a third-round comp pick in this upcoming draft, awarded as part of the compensation for losing defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, but traded it to the Jacksonville Jaguars last year in a package for the right to draft wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa.
After being awarded the comp pick, the Lions now have seven Day 3 picks in the upcoming draft, including two in every round except the seventh. That should give general manager Brad Holmes plenty of ammo to move for impact players who can help Detroit return to its contender status.
Here is a full list of the Lions' picks in 2026.
Round 1 — Pick No. 17
Round 2 — No. 50
Round 4 — No. 118
Round 4 — No. 128 (via Houston)
Round 5 — No. 155
Round 5 — No. 181 (Compensatory)
Round 6 — No. 187 (via Cleveland)
Round 6 — No. 204 (via Jacksonville)
Round 7 — No. 222 (via Cleveland)
