LIGONIER, Pa. – A strong business school paired with a golf program that will help Ligonier Valley High School senior Tyler Jones reach his full potential attracted him to St. Francis University.
The standout golfer recently committed to the Loretto program.
“The feeling of home on the campus and the wonderful business school made the academic side a no-brainer,” Jones said. “The coaching staff and the competition made the athletic side feel right.”
He will join a program led by director of golf Jonathan Kulas. St. Francis will transition to the NCAA Division III level within the Presidents’ Athletic Conference starting this fall. Area graduates Lukas Cascino (Bishop McCort Catholic) and Caden Miller (Westmont Hilltop) are currently on the team.
Jones will major in finance. Golf has been a constant in Jones’ life.
“Because golf has been all around me growing up, and with my brother playing competitive golf, it also gave me a motive,” Jones said.
He played four years of golf at Ligonier Valley High School and six competitively. Jones was a four-year letterman and three-year team captain. He was a four-time District 7 finalist and finished in eighth place among Class 2A golfers as a senior in 2025. Jones qualified for the PIAA championships this past fall.
Jones has competed in the Tri-State Junior PGA golf tournaments and was 2025 player of the year. He played in the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions qualifier as well as the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association tournaments.
He is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Valley Youth Network and National Honor Society at Ligonier Valley.
Ligonier Valley golf coach Mark Hollick was a major influence during Jones’ career.
“I believe Coach Hollick and my parents have had the biggest influence on my athletic career,” Jones said. “Coach Hollick, I feel, has always believed in me since he first met me, and would drop anything to help me improve myself as a person and at the game of golf. My parents have always been supportive, through the ups and downs of my golf career. They always love seeing me succeed, but they also give me the sense of accomplishment even when I fail.”
Jones is the son of Michael and Nicole Jones, of Ligonier.
