You don’t need to watch Heated Rivalry to know that gays have winter sports in the bag.

LGBTQ+ athletes who participated in the 2026 Milan Olympics won a staggering 11 medals during the games, according to digital sports magazine Outsports. Were LGBTQ+ people to count as their own team, per Outsports, they would place 13th in overall medal count, with 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.

The 11 medals were won by a total of 19 athletes, which is more than one-third of the total number, 49, of LGBTQ+ athletes.

Gold medal winners included Cayla Barnes, Hilary Knight, and Alex Carpenter, three out members of Team USA’s women’s ice hockey team, who won the gold in an unprecedentedly gay match against Team Canada. Joining those three in the gold medal winners circle are figure skater Guillaume Cizeron, skier Breezy Johnson — who famously broke her gold medal 15 minutes after getting it — “Babes of Glory” figure skater Amber Glenn, and freestyle Swiss skier Mathilde Gremaud.

Silver medalists include curler Bruce Mouat and the six out members — Emily Clark, Erin Amrose, Emerance Maschmeyer, Brianne Jenner, Laura Stacey and Marie-Philip Poulin — of Canada’s women’s ice hockey team, who clinched silver after losing to Team USA.

Meet Sweden’s Elis Lundholm, the First Trans Skier in the Winter Olympics
Lundholm says that he has “always been treated well” within the skiing world.

Rounding out the record-breaking year for LGBTQ+ athletes are the bronze medal winners, which includes one more ice hockey player: Swiss teammate Laura Zimmerman. Additional bronze medalists include Swedish freestyle skier Sandra Naeslund, Belgian speed skater Tineke den Dulk, and Canadian figure skater Paul Poirier.

Queer Olympians made quite a splash throughout the games, with American Olympians Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight getting engaged and sharing the news on social media. Bisexual gold medal skier Breezy Johnson also got engaged to her fiancé Connor Watkins while in Milan.

LGBTQ+ athletes were a part of the games until the very end, with 3 out Olympians bearing their countries’ flags during the closing ceremonies.
