The first round of the 2026 Ohio Cardinal Conference golf tournament is in the books.
On the boys side, the Lexington Minutemen took control of first place in the boys team title race. They shot a team score of 293 to win the first round and gain the seven available total points. Senior Jackson Durchik was the tournament medalist with a historic round of 63 breaking the Lexington High School tournament record and taking ownership of the OCC Player of the Year race. Myles Smith carded a 75 and took sixth overall while Dawson Dreibelbis tied for seventh with a 76, Ben Sheets and Caleb Murfield tied for 18th with matching 79s and Carson Pigg was 27th with an 83.
New Philadelphia took second with a team score of 297 and earned six team points. Brady Evans carded a 68 to take medalist runner-up honors while Griffin Wells added a 74 to take fifth overall. JP Miller tied for seventh with a 76 while Kayle McBride tied for 18th with a 79, Carter Jackson tied for 32nd with an 89 and Cameron Miller took 39th with a 97.
The Madison Rams were third with a 304 and took five points. Brandon Maglott carded a one-under-par 71 to take fourth place in the tournament. Lincoln Shepherd tied for 12th with a 77, Josh Maglott and Vinny Studer tied for 14th with matching 78s, Branson Porter tied for 23rd with an 82 and Carson Isaac took 37th with a 92.
The Ashland Arrows were fourth with a 314 and earned four team points. Jacob Snay led the Arrows with a third-place finish after carding a 70 in the opening round. Dalton Saterfield tied for 12th with a 77, Ty Ellis tied for 18th with a 79, Jayden Flanagan tied for 23rd with an 82, Kale Durig tied for 28th with an 86 and Jaxon Bowman took 40th with a 98.
Dover finished fifth with a 316 while West Holmes and Wooster tied for sixth with matching 332s. Dover earned three team points and West Holmes and Wooster took 1.5 apiece.
Dover was led by Austin Levengood and Gavin Vanhorn who tied for seventh with matching 76s while Carson Peoples and Jeremy Cappel tied for 23rd with matching 82s, Grady Clugston tied for 28th with an 86 and Matthew Yoder was 38th with a 93.
West Holmes was led by Rowand Mathie who tied for seventh with a 76 while Zane Kinsey took 22nd with an 80, Keston McKinney tied for 30th with an 87, Logan Allison tied for 32nd with an 89, Koen Bridenthal took 36th with a 90 and Hunter Haynes was 41st with a 104.
Wooster was led by Caleb Pycraft and Crosby Starlin who tied for 14th overall with matching 78s while Zack Terrell tied for 30th with an 87, Axton Hammerly and Javen Mitchell tied for 32nd with matching 89s and Dominic Davis was 42nd with a 106.
Mansfield Senior’s lone golfer, Manixx Blankenship, was 43rd with a 143.
The Wooster Generals squeaked out a Round 1 team victory by shooting a 378 finishing one stroke ahead of Ashland’s 379. The Generals took seven teams points while Ashland claimed six.
Ella Scott led Wooster with a 90 giving her sole possession of fourth place. Hailey Bode tied for sixth with a 93 while Ava Scott was eighth with a 96, Paige Baumgartner tied for 11th with a 99, Mace Payne was 14th with a 102 and Anna Rittgers was 26th with a 125.
Natalie Kohler tied for medalist runner-up honors for the Arrows after carding an 86 while Chloe Crunkilton tied for sixth with a 93, Aubrey Oslie was ninth with a 97, Samantha Mauriocourt was 10th with a 98, Sophie Hochstetler was 15th with a 104 and Adrienne Teevan was 23rd with a 119.
West Holmes took third as a team and the five team points available after shooting a 389. Mattie Shankel was the tournament medalist with an 83 while Sophie Robb took fifth with a 91, Aubrey Burchfield was 13th with a 101, Payton Hudson tied for 20th with a 114 and Zoe Walter tied for 24th with a 120.
Dover finished fourth as a team with a 437 to take four points. Tori Griesen led Dover with a 99 tying her for 11th place overall. Bella Perkowski took 16th with a 105, Aubrie Hamilton was 19th with a 113, Abbey Zurfley tied for 24th with a 120 and Britney Zurfley tied for 30th with a 142.
Lexington took fifth as a team with a 462 team score and grabbed three points. Aniyah Monica tied for medalist runner-up honors with an 86 while Emily Neighbors tied for 17th with a 106, Addison Jarvis took 28th with a 127 and Shaynah Lutz was 32nd with a 143.
New Philadelphia finished sixth as a team with a 464 and took two points. Kota Silverthorn tied for 17th with a 106 while Ella Randolph tied for 20th with a 114, Amelia Burdette took 22nd with a 118, Avery Baker took 27th with a 126 and Scottlynd Martin took 29th with a 141.
Mansfield Senior’s Amelia Raphael was the lone golfer for the Tygers and tied for 30th with a 142.
The second round of the OCC tournament takes place Thursday, Aug. 27 at The Pines Golf Club.
