Scuderia Ferrari Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton secured a P3 start for the Monaco Grand Prix after setting the third fastest time behind Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen. However, he was quick to note, “We lost something going into today,” and that was something Ferrari will have to figure out overnight.

Hamilton seemed confident with the setup on his SF-26 F1 car, and as a result, his team barely made any changes to ensure the car remained the way the Briton wanted it. However, despite that, he emphasized that the car was very different during the qualifying session, something Ferrari was looking into.

Hamilton likely felt the car was capable of securing pole position when he said something was lost going into the qualifying, hinting at a slight drop in performance that led to a P3 rather than a P1.

Speaking after the qualifying session with Jenson Button, Hamilton started by congratulating Kimi on his first pole in Monaco. He said:

“Well, congrats to Kimi, mega, mega job. Having your first pole here is so, so special. And obviously, we’ve got such a great crowd here, so it’s a beautiful day.”

Hamilton mentioned how his car felt different despite the setup being unchanged:

“We were looking so strong in practice, and we barely changed anything, but the car was drastically different once we got to qualifying for some reason. So we had to take a deep dive into that, but I gave it absolutely everything. I was as close to the barriers as I could be, and you know, what a privilege it is to be here, to be one of the 22 drivers in Formula One getting to do this. I love every second of it.”

The qualifying session was intense as the gap between the cars was extremely tight, leading Button to mention that he had never witnessed something like that in the past.

Hamilton acknowledged the level of competition and highlighted that his team had some homework to do. He said:

“I think it is definitely very, very quick. Close between us all…..Max put in a good time and Kimi. I think it’s great to see how close all the cars are. I think we lost something going into today, and that’s what we need to try to figure out.

“But a big thank you to the guys back at the factory and the guys here, you know. We haven’t had the peak performance this weekend, but we’re obviously there in the fight, and I’m really keen and looking forward to seeing what developments we bring in the future.”
