The acquisition of All-Pro receiver Davante Adams was one of the biggest moves made by the Los Angeles Rams this offseason.

Pairing Adams with Puka Nacua gives Matthew Stafford one of the best receiving duos in the NFL and sets up the Rams to properly defend their NFC West crown. And while Sean McVay was aggressive in his pursuit, general manager Les Snead explained (in jest) that there was another reason why the Rams targeted Adams in free agency.

Snead told ESPN's Pat McAfee Show that because Nacua already planned to switch his jersey from No. 17 to No. 12 that the Rams specifically looked for players who could could take that number.

"It was, 'Oh man, we got jersey 17 open. What NFL play can we sign who wears 17?'" Snead joked. "'Holy cow, let's go Davante Adams!'"

"Sean McVay always collaborates with Matthew Stafford..

He was definitely all for adding Davante Adams"

Obviously, this wasn't the reason the Rams signed Adams. He's a multi-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl receiver who continues to put up 1,000-yard receiving seasons despite playing on three different teams over the past five seasons. But the happy coincidence certainly makes for a better story.
