Les Paul is a one of a kind, love his work! I don't think there is a "greatest" musician of any kind, there are just favorites. Everyone with a gift brings their own magic to the world.
Les was loaded with talent. Not so sure on the greatest ever...not with guys out there like Eddie Van Halen and Roy Clark...maybe sometimes it comes down to personal taste.
But no matter who was on the axe, they all were made better by good percussion...and nobody did it better than Neil Pert

Not sure how familiar you are with Roy Clark but he was an entertainer just like Les Paul...very non traditional
