Two teams are seeing the most buzz in the NFC West this offseason. The San Francisco 49ers are not one of them.
The Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks are the focal point of the division heading into the 2026 season. In some ways, it makes sense.
While Seattle enters a transition year with new faces coming into more significant roles, they did win a Super Bowl last season. It's hard to say they will go away any time soon.
The Rams have been a consistent contender in their own right. And while the 49ers have made some big moves, the Rams made their splash in the quiet part of the offseason with a trade for Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett. The timing of the trade made it so much more powerful in regard to its publicity and national impact.
The Niners finished third in the NFC West and that's how they are being viewed this offseason. Even so, one analyst suggests we should not sleep on their chances to contend in 2026.
Former NFL running back LeGarrette Blount dropped his honest thoughts on the team on the NFL Network show, "Good Morning Football."
"I'm on (the 49ers) train too. Mike Evans is a dog. Adding a big-time veteran like that around guys like Christian Kirk and guys like Ricky Pearsall, you have guys that are going to be able to play ball. You have a quarterback that's coming back that was kind of riddled with injuries, a little bit back-and-forth throughout the season. You got, obviously, Christian McCaffrey, who people arguably consider the best running back in the game all-purpose.
I'm not looking past these guys at all. The San Francisco 49ers are going to always be a problem. They were always a problem all the way from back when I played football. They're still going to be a problem. They know how to put a team together. They know how to get a quarterback. I'm on the San Francisco train. I like them."

The 49ers are versatile. Defensively they bring in a coordinator in Raheem Morris who brings 4-3 and 3-4 fronts over from his time throughout the NFL. On offense, the team is able to run two-back sets or four-wide personnel based on its talent in house.
Ultimately, the top-end talent with wide receiver Mike Evans, running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle is among the best in the NFL. The Niners are still a problem. They will look to put it all together in the 2026 season.
