On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers made yet another statement to the rest of the NBA by smacking the Cleveland Cavaliers127-113 in the second game of a back-to-back set. They have now won 16 of their last 18 games, and they're starting to look like a scary team no one will want to face come playoff time.
Tuesday was also a historic night for LeBron James. Three years ago, he surpassed Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the league's all-time leading career scorer, and earlier this season, he leapfrogged Abdul-Jabbar in the category of career field goals made. Now, James has gotten past the master of the skyhook to notch the most total wins in NBA history.
James didn't do a lot in Tuesday's victory — he hit four of his eight shot attempts and ended up with 14 points, five rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block in 31 minutes. But he's playing his role as L.A.'s third scoring option very adeptly, and the team is thriving as a result.
Playing off the ball and lowering his usage rate the way he has lately should leave him fresh for the playoffs and allow him to drop some big outings in the postseason when the Lakers need them most.
