Speaking on Bob Does Sports, LeBron James admitted, “I swear he used to trick the s___ out of me. I’m like what play is he running? [Gestures Kobe Bryant’s hand signals].
James described how Bryant would signal plays that looked structured, forcing defenders to anticipate movement that never actually followed.
The signals were deliberate misdirection. Bryant shaped the defence before even touching the ball in a scoring position.
That manipulation created hesitation, which is all Bryant needed to take control of the possession.
Kobe Bryant turned every LeBron James read into isolation
LeBron broke down the pattern clearly, saying, “What the f___ play is Kobe running? Then every time they swing the ball to him, he goes iso. This ain’t no play, this guy trying to kill me.”
What looked like a team action consistently collapsed into isolation. By then, the defense had already been shifted out of shape.
That gave Bryant a clean advantage. He was not reacting to the defense; he was engineering it.
