LeBron James recruited by 2 Cincinnati teams after Lakers departure

LeBron James is officially an NBA free agent, as he announced his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30, the day NBA free agency kicked off. And while Cincinnati doesn't have a professional basketball organization, two local sports teams have thrown their hats into the ring to be his next squad.

In light of James' Lakers departure breaking the internet, numerous organizations humorously recruited the future Hall of Famer on social media, including the Cincinnati Bengals and University of Cincinnati Bearcats.

The former posted a video of James hugging Bengals stars Ja'Marr Chase and Joe Burrow after a Lakers-Phoenix Suns game in 2024, along with the caption, "LeBron James. Cincinnati Bengal. Has a nice ring to it."

Burrow, an Ohio native, does appear to be a James and Cleveland Cavaliers fan, as a picture of a young Burrow wearing James' Cavs jersey has circulated on the internet over the years.

The UC men's basketball team also sent out a post recruiting James, sharing a podcast clip from 2024 in which the all-time NBA scoring leader said, "I remember as a kid watching that, when I was growing up I wanted to go to Cincinnati because of the uniforms and because of (Bob Huggins)."
