LeBron James is nearing the end of his 22nd NBA season, and it has been his usual very productive season. Going into the Los Angeles Lakers' final two regular-season games, he's averaging 24.6 points, 8.2 assists and 7.9 rebounds a game, and he's shooting 51.2% from the field and 37.8% from 3-point range.
He has played in 69 of a possible 80 games so far, and he seems ready for what could be an extended and possibly even a special playoff run over the next several weeks.
On Wednesday, James scored 27 points in a big 112-97 victory over the Dallas Mavericks that guaranteed the Lakers a top-six playoff seed in the Western Conference. In doing so, he passed legendary Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to move into second place on the NBA's all-time list of career games played.
The league's all-time leader in games played is Robert Parish, who appeared in 1,611 contests. James is currently at 1,561 career games.
James, of course, passed Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time leading scorer two years ago. With Luka Doncic by his side, perhaps he has a chance of besting the master of the skyhook in one other department — becoming the oldest player to win the NBA Finals MVP award.
Abdul-Jabbar won the honor in 1985 at age 38 by leading the Purple and Gold past the Boston Celtics for the world championship. James is 40 years of age but playing like someone about a decade younger.
