When the Los Angeles Lakers opened the season in October, LeBron James and Bronny James became the first father-and-son duo in NBA history to play in a game together.
When the team's season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night, the pair were something more like typical teammates.
The Lakers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5, losing 103-96 as they went cold in the fourth quarter. The loss sent the Lakers into a long offseason, crushing the title hopes that were raised significantly when the team landed Luka Doncic at the NBA trade deadline.
As ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin reported after the game, LeBron James had a rather typical parting message for his son despite the bitter exit.
"LeBron to Bronny as he leaves the locker room after Game 5 parrots typical teammate talk for this moment: 'All right, have a good offseason. I’ll see you when I see you,' " McMenamin wrote in a post on X.
It remains unclear if LeBron and Bronny James will play together again. The 40-year-old James said after the game that he will take some time to consider whether he wants to retire or return to the NBA for his 23rd season.
“I don’t know. I don’t have the answer to that," James said when asked about whether he might retire. "It’s something I’ll sit down with my family, my wife, and my support group and kind of just talk through it and see what happens. And have conversations with myself on how much longer I want to continue to play. I don’t know the answer to that right now, to be honest. We’ll see.”
