The Indiana Pacers are almost certainly not going to end up being the landing spot for LeBron James. While some have mentioned that they're an intriguing fit, the idea of James taking his talents to Indianapolis is far-fetched.
Despite that fact, a connection to James has given Pacers fans a reason to be excited.
Rich Paul, who is James' agent, recently spoke out about Indiana. He made it clear that he is a big fan of the Pacers' move to acquire Ivica Zubac from the Los Angeles Clippers.
During an interview with notable sports analyst Max Kellerman, Paul spoke glowingly about Indiana's new center.
Here is how the conversation between the two went:
Max Kellerman: “You know who no one's thinking about in the East, but might come out of the East?”
Rich Paul: "Who?"
Kellerman: “Indiana.”
Paul: “Oh, Indiana's back home. With Zubac.”
Kellerman: “Indiana was a nightmare matchup for the Knicks the year before. And not only did they bump off the Knicks (who won the championship next year), but they were tied at half time against OKC. Indiana is as good as any team.
Paul: “Yeah in Game seven, with Hali, yes.”
Kellerman: “Game seven, on the road, tied at half time, then you lose your best player to injury, and then you lose the game. Who's to say they wouldn't have won that game? They might have won the game. They might have won the title.”
Paul: “If there was a year to win it, it was this year. And the Knicks did it. But like you said, everyone’s getting better.”
Kellerman: “I think the Pacers are somehow a sleeper team.”
Paul: “The Pacers are a sleeper team? They added Zubac.”
Kellerman: “Yeah, only because no one's thinking about them. What you hear now, Philly just got Jaylen Brown. Obviously, the Knicks are the champs. Boston made moves. Miami gets Giannis. All these things are happening. No one's thinking about Indiana. Indiana's going to be good.”
Those comments show just how respected Zubac is around the NBA. Paul's comments should give Indiana fans more reason to be comfortable with the trade that Kevin Pritchard and the front office made.
After losing the No. 5 overall pick to the Clippers as part of the Zubac trade, fans were unhappy. Many started saying that the trade was a mistake. Those comments were being made without even seeing Zubac fully.
Hopefully, the Pacers are proven right for taking such an aggressive approach to acquire Zubac. Paul is clearly a big fan of the move, which is a good sign for Indiana.
