It wasn’t long ago that the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers pulled off one of the biggest trades in NBA history—sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and draft compensation.

Many Mavericks fans were outraged by the move, criticizing general manager Nico Harrison for trading away the franchise cornerstone. But everything changed on Monday night during the NBA Draft Lottery, when Dallas shockingly landed the No. 1 overall pick—despite having just a 1.8% chance.

The announcement sent shockwaves through the basketball world and sparked immediate reactions from superstar athletes. Chiefs quarterback and Mavericks fan Patrick Mahomes weighed in, and even Lakers star LeBron James posted a string of laughing emojis in response to Dallas securing what many believe will be Duke freshman phenom Cooper Flagg.

Within the first 10 minutes of being posted, the tweet surpassed 1 million views, with many NBA fans flooding the comments to say the same thing—questioning the legitimacy of the draft lottery.

"LeBron knows it’s rigged," a fan said.

Someone else added, "You know this [explicit] rigged Goat."

"Even LeBron knows it’s rigged," another fan posted.

One more fan commented, "Its laughable how blatantly rigged it is."

Such a deal would likely only be for a superstar talent like Giannis Antetokounmpo, who some believe may seek a way out of Milwaukee this offseason. A player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber would demand a return as significant as the No. 1 overall pick.

Nonetheless, for a franchise that seemed headed in the wrong direction after trading Luka Doncic, especially under the scrutiny of GM Nico Harrison, the Mavericks now have a chance to pair Flagg with established stars Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis—instantly revitalizing their championship hopes.
