LeBron James’ comment about former teammate Bronny shows off his incredible NBA longevity

LeBron James is heading into his 24th season in the NBA, but it’s the first one for his son, Bronny James, where his father isn’t on the same roster as him.

Bronny has shared a locker room with his father since joining the Los Angeles Lakers as a late second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

With LeBron now spending two seasons with his son and joining the Philadelphia 76ers, the 41-year-old couldn’t help but laugh at his incredible longevity.

LeBron James remarks on Bronny James being his former teammate​

In an interview on Boardroom Talks, James openly admitted that he finds it hilarious that he’s now a former teammate of his 22-year-old son.

“I have an almost 22-year-old son who is now my former teammate, which is hilarious. That’s my former teammate.”


LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo in NBA history to be teammates in 2024, with many blasting the Lakers for giving Bronny an opportunity as a sign of LeBron-led nepotism.

The Lakers viewed Bronny as a real developmental prospect, which has been reinforced with the team retaining the 22-year-old guard despite his father’s exit from the franchise.

If the Lakers give Bronny occasional rotational minutes like they did last year, there’s a high chance he and LeBron make more history as the first father-son duo to also play against each other.

We have never seen a father play long enough to share the floor with his son, but LeBron managed that comfortably over two seasons.

Now, the all-time leading scorer is likely going to spend two seasons as Bronny’s opponent, albeit in the opposite conference.

Bronny was born before the start of LeBron’s second NBA season in 2004-05, when the elder James earned his first All-Star and All-NBA selections.

James averaged 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 2.2 steals in the height of the much-slower ‘deadball’ era in the season Bronny was born, and then averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in his first season alongside his son, earning his 21st All-Star appearance.
