After losing the battle for the top of the league with the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, Oregon State Beavers junior guard Kennedie Shuler, Gonzaga Bulldogs redshirt freshman forward Lauren Whittaker was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week.

Whittaker, having 10 total weekly honors thus far, scored a career-high 37 points against the Beavers in Corvallis. That tied a Gonzaga program record for most points in a game and set the program record for most points in a game by a freshman.
The Canterbury, New Zealand native also grabbed 14 rebounds in the pivotal 92-87 overtime loss on Thursday, Jan. 22, for her 11th double-double of 2025-26, the most of any freshman nationally and tied for the 10th-most in all of college basketball.
Whittaker leads the West Coast Conference in scoring (20.1 points per game), rebounding (10.3 rebounds per game), and field goal percentage (56.4 shooting percentage).
The Zags (14-7, 6-2 WCC) travel to the Bay Area to take on the San Francisco Dons (13-7, 6-3 WCC) on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
