Actually, the last 2 times we drafted, we ended up with Leonard Davis and Wendell Bryant. Not as bad as you make it sound. I fail to see how Leftwich is any more of a lock to be successful than Suggs. He lacks mobility, there's questions about his health, and he would cost more to pay than Suggs.

Didn't Leftwich have his workout for NFL scouts last week? How did that go? I think he has fallen becuase of his lack of mobility in the pocket. No matter, the Cardinals need DL. The 2003 team can be successful if they can put moderate pressure on the opposing QB. Blake and McCown are good enough at QB this year.

Actually, he said the last 2 times we drafted for need. Davis was not a need pick though Bryant was. Thus far Bryant has shown less than diddly squat. If he pans out, fine, but he was outclassed by almost all the other DTs drafted in the first 2 rounds last year.

Leftwich has climbed since his workout. He has shown he is healthy and had faster feet than people thought.

I've heard mixed reviews on his workout both in print and on the radio. I think he is the toughest decision for a GM in the top ten. I said last season that I thought he was overrated as a passer based on the times I've watched him. That's what scares me, more than the leg.

Suggs comes into the draft with a bunch of enthusiastic folk who saw him and came away impressed with his skill as a pass rusher.

Knight was drafted underneath the warning by Kiper that he was a "reach" at #9 and played too far "off" his man.

Jones was lumped in with 4 or 5 backs available in Round One (including Lewis, Dayne, Alexander). We were terrified that if we waited til Round 2, the next level of RB's would really suck. So we allowed ourselves to be sweet-talked into selecting Jones. (Some of us, including me, had hoped we could trade down a few spots with Chicago to draft Urlacher and then pick up an additional late 1st round pick (we could use to draft Alexander). Obviously, it didn't happen.

I loved both the Davis and Bryant picks because I felt both were dominant players at positions we needed help in at the time. I feel the same way about Suggs. (I think he's more likely to be really productive like Leonard rather than a bust like TJ or TK. Barring injury of course).

I know people knock Leftwich on his mobility but if you watched him at all this past college season it seemed to me he had an uncanny ability to sense and avoid the rush. I watched him do that repeatedly in their bowl game and that was with a gimpy leg and against some pretty good pass rushers(Louisville). It was just a step right, left or forward giving him another second to get the pass off and he never seemed to panic.

He is not going to tuck it and run like Culpepper, McNabb or Vick...he is much more along the lines of a Bledsoe or Aikman who are pocket passers and will kill you with their arms not their feet.

Just got shot in South Phoenix
I just hope the Cards step there selections up, because they have been awful. Last year didn't produce anyone besides McAddley, the rest had zero impact. The year before M Stone, KVB, B Gramitica were poor selections as well, at the times they were selected in the draft. I hope this year they handle it better

Unfortunately

I don't think Robertson will be there when the Cardinals select. He would fit well in Chicago and Dallas.

As far as causing a QB controversy, you don't throw your rookie QB to the wolves. You let him sit and watch.

However, it would be NICE to have a QB actually come in and dazzle during training camp instead of tossing a bunch of interceptions to a mediocre secondary ala Jake.

Really, we aren't winning next season. Let's get our franchise QB and let him develop.
