The Los Angeles Lakers, like every other NBA franchise, isn’t perfect.

While they’ve made their fair share of reasonable decisions, they’ve also made plenty of mistakes over the years that they’ve faced backlash for.

Failing to inform former superstar Anthony Davis that he was involved in trade talks involving Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks is one of them, and the 10-time All-Star made that clear during an in-season interview with Draymond Green.

Essentially, Davis viewed the move as a sign of disrespect after giving his all to the Lakers for nearly six seasons. Shockingly, though, NBA insider Scoop B. Robinson believes Los Angeles could reunite with Davis this summer in a mega three-team trade and put the past behind them.

“Executing a trade of this magnitude (No. 2 overall pick, Lauri Markkanen, Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht and Lakers draft capital to the Washington Wizards, the No. 1 overall pick, Trae Young, Jake LaRavia, and Lakers draft capital to the Utah Jazz, and Anthony Davis, Ace Bailey, two 2027 Jazz second-round picks, and two 2026 Wizards second-round picks to the Lakers) requires immaculate spreadsheet discipline,’ Slater wrote Tuesday.

“The foundational mechanism enabling the salaries to balance involves complex roster decisions elsewhere on the ledger, specifically requiring Deandre Ayton to opt out of his current contract structure while Marcus Smart opts into his remaining salary commitment.”

Bringing Davis back to Los Angeles for another stint, frankly, only makes sense for the Lakers from a nostalgia standpoint. The 10-time All-Star helped the franchise win its 17th title in 2020 and had plenty of memorable individual performances alongside LeBron James in Los Angeles.

However, the Kentucky product was far too injury-prone for Los Angeles’ liking, which led to them shipping him to the Mavericks for a 27-year-old point guard who’s now the clear face of their franchise.

Dallas grew weary of Davis’ health struggles as well, which explains why he currently competes with the Wizards despite expectations that he would be a significant part of Dallas’ future.

If the Lakers feel inclined to take a massive gamble with Davis, though, another surprising deal could materialize.
