The Los Angeles Lakers were extremely busy on Wednesday morning. In a span of less than an hour, they agreed to trade two future unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps to the Utah Jazz for Walker Kessler, their big target this summer, and agreed to sign big man Sandro Mamukelashvili and guards Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton.
The Luka Doncic era has now begun in earnest after LeBron James informed the Lakers on Tuesday that he will not be re-signing with them in free agency. They have gotten considerably younger, and they're particularly hoping incoming rookie Cameron Carr will turn into a legitimate contributor.
The team reportedly officially signed Carr to his rookie contract on Thursday. The terms of that contract weren't made public.
The Lakers traded the rights to their No. 25 pick, which they used on Sergo De Larrea, to the New York Knicks for the rights to Carr, who was taken with pick No. 24. Carr is an explosive athlete who is 6-foot-5 and has a wingspan of roughly 7-foot-1, as well as a vertical leap of 42.5 inches. This past season, he averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 1.3 blocks a game while at Baylor University.
He is a reliable 3-point shooter, especially off the catch. He can also throw down emphatic dunks and attack off the dribble, and he is thought to have the potential to become a definite plus defender.
