The clock is ticking loudly as far as the Los Angeles Lakers' opportunity to make a trade before the NBA's Feb. 5 trade deadline. De'Andre Hunter and Keon Ellis are off the board after being involved in a three-team trade on Saturday, which means the Lakers' options as far as targets are shrinking.
But according to one insider, there is a new target who has emerged: Saddiq Bey.
Per Evan Sidery, the Lakers are one of a few teams that have inquired about the New Orleans Pelicans forward. Bey has bounced back from a torn ACL that cost him all of last season, and so far this season, he's averaging 16.5 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.
Bey, 26, is 6-foot-7 and 215 pounds and can play both forward spots. He isn't very athletic, but he came into the NBA with a reputation as a scrappy player who can play effective defense against players at multiple positions and stretch the floor by hitting 3-pointers.
He hasn't historically been a great 3-point shooter in the NBA, but he does have a decent career mark of 35.2% from 3-point range. He will make just $6.1 million this season and $6.44 million next season, and his contract will expire in 2027.

The Knicks, Lakers and Suns are among the teams to recently inquire with the Pelicans on Saddiq Bey.
Over the past month, Bey is averaging 21.2 points, 6 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 44.4% on threes.
