The Los Angeles Lakers have some assets, but likely not enough to land some of the top players on the market. There have been some reports connecting them to some very good players, including Trey Murphy III.

Murphy, arguably the top player on the trade market outside of Giannis Antetokounmpo, is expected to be sought after this summer.

It remains uncertain if the New Orleans Pelicans want to trade him just yet, but if they can get decent assets in return, it wouldn't be the worst idea to move on from him. The Lakers now know what those assets could be, with a reporter recently suggesting that it would take a combination of first-round picks and immediate contributors to be in the ballpark of a trade.

“A handful of contending teams are in pursuit of Trey Murphy III as the Pelicans have let it be known they’re now open to fielding offers. For New Orleans to even entertain moving Murphy, it would take a combination of first-round picks, prospects, plus an immediate contributor,” Evan Sidery wrote.

Unless the Lakers can get creative here, I don't know how many immediate contributors they have whom they want to move on from.

They also don't have a ridiculous number of first-round picks like some other teams in the NBA, so that's another area where things could get a bit confusing.
