Reuniting LeBron James and Luka Doncic with Dallas Mavericks star point guard Kyrie Irving would be exhilarating to witness.

James and Irving spent three seasons as teammates with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the early to late 2010s and captured a hard-fought championship in 2016 thanks to both players’ contributions.

Doncic and Irving were backcourt mates with the Mavericks for two seasons and reached the NBA Finals in 2023 as the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference.

Considering Irving is likely on his way out the door in Dallas, rumors surrounding a potential Lakers trade have begun to surface. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, it doesn’t appear it's poised to acquire the nine-time All-Star.

“My only real understanding of what the Lakers want to do from a timeline perspective is they want to bring in a talent that fits 27-year-old Luka Doncic's timeline,” The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer said Thursday.

“As great as that pairing of Luka and Kyrie was, I think Kyrie is a little bit redundant with Austin Reaves, and the Lakers, by all accounts, do want to bring him back on the fold.”

"I'm not paying too much stock in the Kyrie-Luka reunion at this time. It's an interesting idea, obviously the pairing worked, but that's not something I've been made aware of at this juncture."

While adding another elite ball-handler and distributor, Irving, to the roster would be a fascinating development, Fischer’s report indicates the former Boston Celtics wouldn’t move the needle for the franchise.

With Los Angeles desperately needing a game-changing center and multi-faceted wing, it’s more realistic to envision the organization chasing assets such as Trey Murphy, Peyton Watson, Andrew Wiggins, Robert Williams III, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Daniel Gafford.

Still, imagining Irving in a Lakers uniform is a riveting exercise.
