While Nic Claxton isn’t considered the Los Angeles Lakers top frontcourt target this summer, he’s an asset that’s been floated as a solid offseason trade option for the 17-time NBA champions.

On Sunday, NBA analyst Jake Weinbach reported that the Lakers were ‘a team to monitor’ for Claxton’s services.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, though, acquiring Claxton is no longer feasible, as he was recently involved in a blockbuster three-team trade centered on Julius Randle.

“Just in: Minnesota (Timberwolves) is sending Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade that sends Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday night. “The Timberwolves will acquire Brooklyn’s No. 33 pick for Randle and No. 28.”

Claxton isn't a household NBA name just yet. Still, there’s a reason why the Lakers were linked to the 27-year-old big man before his involvement in a massive late-June trade. Claxton is a springy 6-foot-11 center who can secure lobs around the rim, finish jump hooks over outstretched arms, and hold his own as an interior defender.

The Georgia product averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists with the Nets this season, shooting 57.1% from the field in 69 contests. With Claxton off the market, Los Angeles will have to pivot to other low-post contributors.
