Lakers chances of landing Giannis Antetokounmpo shut down, and for good reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The NBA offseason isn't here just yet, but it definitely seems like there's going to be a crazy amount of trades for some of the top players in the league.

Many teams will be following the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, as the Milwaukee Bucks star is expected to be at least available for the right price.

It remains uncertain if the Bucks are really going to move on from Antetokounmpo this time, as we've heard trade rumors around the star for nearly a decade now, and he still hasn't given any indication that he's asked out in Milwaukee.

Some teams make more sense for Antetokounmpo than others, including the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers, a team that's always looking to improve on both sides of the basketball court and to chase stars, unfortunately, don't have many assets to land a player of his caliber.

However, that hasn't stopped Los Angeles fans from believing that pairing him with Luka Doncic would be one of the most exciting duos in the NBA and give them a chance to win in the Western Conference. At this point, however, that doesn't feel like a real possibility and is more of a pipe dream.

“While it sounds like the Lakers will once again register interest, as they should, those daydreaming of a Giannis-Luka duo will probably end up disappointed. Even with the NBA threatening to undermine the trade value of draft picks with their new flattened lottery odds, Giannis is a two-time MVP and a champion. Despite concerns about longevity and durability, there will be teams willing to sell the farm. Los Angeles just does not have a farm to offer,” Christopher Kline wrote.

It's impossible to never say never in the NBA, and I think most Lakers fans understand that after they were able to make a trade for Doncic out of nowhere.

Still, I'd be very surprised to see the Bucks move on from Antetokounmpo in a deal with Los Angeles unless something changes over the next few months.
