Lady Vols basketball point guard Mia Pauldo was listed as out on the initial SEC injury report on Feb. 14 ahead of Tennessee's matchup with Texas.
The freshman will miss a second straight game when the No. 22 Lady Vols (16-6, 8-2 SEC) face the No. 4 Texas (23-3, 8-3) at Food City center on Feb. 15 (3 p.m. ET, ABC). Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell said she hoped Pauldo would be back for the Texas matchup after the Missouri win on Feb. 12.
"We've got to really, really work on box outs and going to get offensive rebounds and taking care of the ball. I'm worried about turning the ball over versus (Texas), and hopefully we can get Mia back on the floor, but we still don't have an update," Caldwell said.
Caldwell said that the injury happened during the South Carolina loss on Feb. 8. Pauldo was Tennessee's leading scorer in conference play before going scoreless at South Carolina on Feb. 8. She took a big hit early in the game and had to be subbed out. She shot 0-for-10 and didn't score for the first time this season.
In the game before that at Georgia, Pauldo also took some hits and hard falls, at one point hitting her head on the ground.
Pauldo has been crucial to the Lady Vols' success, averaging 11.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals. She is shooting 37.5% from the field and 30.1% on 6.3 attempts from 3-point range per game.
Pauldo's scoring went up in SEC play to 14.4 points per game, and she became one of Tennessee's most reliable scorers. She is the Lady Vols' best ball handler and one of their lowest-turnover impact players.
