LEXINGTON — La Familia’s run in The Basketball Tournament is over.
Eberlein Drive knocked off La Familia, 71-70, in a game that went down to the wire in the round of 16 clash at Memorial Coliseum.
The event-ending loss came on the heels of a 16-2 La Familia run to begin the fourth period that turned a 53-47 deficit into a 63-55 lead.

On its heels for the first time all game, Eberlein Drive took the punch and recovered to win by one point and capture the Lexington Regional championship.
Unlike La Familia’s first two games in this year’s event — a 105-52 blowout of Stroh’s Squad in the round of 64, followed by a nail-biting 80-76 victory over War Ready in the round of 32 — leads were hard to come by Tuesday. Though the hosts scored the first four points of Tuesday’s contest, the visitors took control for much of the next three quarters; La Familia last led at the 4:52 mark of the opening period, on top 8-7. Then Eberlein Drive ended the quarter on a 14-5 run to open a double-digit lead (22-12).
La Familia fought back in the second stanza, cutting the deficit in half at intermission, trailing 35-30. It made little headway in the third quarter before staging its stunning final-period rally.
It just wasn’t enough to avoid a defeat.
La Familia’s second go-round in the TBT is finished despite a third superlative showing from Archie Goodwin in as many games. The 6-foot-5 guard poured in a team-high 19 points (on 8-of-17 shooting) in Tuesday’s loss, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out six assists against his former TBT club.
Eberlein Drive now awaits its quarterfinal foe: the winner of the Louisville Regional title tilt between Sideline Cancer and LA Ignite. Those two square off at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Eberlein Drive then plays the victor at 6 p.m. Monday.
