There are already a lot of expectations being placed on the Baltimore Ravens, simply due to the team normally being a playoff contender, and having missed that postseason berth for the first time since the 2021 season.

With all of the talent on both sides of the ball, it makes sense why the belief is the Ravens will bounce back in a big way. Former Baltimore linebacker Kyle Van Noy understands this, but revealed that expectations are even higher due to the organization moving away from John Harbaugh.

Kyle Van Noy says expectations are extremely high for the Ravens this year

"Expectations are high," Van Noy said. "They are the highest of heights. You don't just make a change like that. You don't just move on from Harbaugh just because. Obviously, Mr. Bisciotti felt a change needed to happen. He did that by going and getting Jesse Minter. Minter is from the tree of Mike Macdonald, and they are trying to get back to that prowess they've always had."

Van Noy played three seasons with the Ravens, so he had a big insight into what the team used to be, including in 2024 when he was able to bring in 12.5 sacks.

Baltimore has been a defensive organization from the organization's inception in the 1990s, but that changed dramatically in 2025 with a slew of injuries and other issues. Minter was brought in, and he hired Anthony Weaver as defensive coordinator to help foster that defensive return.

There is even a chance that the defense makes a call to Van Noy to bring him back into the fold. The linebacker indicated that he still has a great relationship with owner Steve Bisciotti and general manager Eric DeCosta.

Granted, the Ravens did bring in Trey Hendrickson and Calais Campbell, but the potential loss of Nnadmi Madubuike could lead to more calls being made.

Moving on from John Harbaugh will be the measuring stick by which the Ravens will be judged, especially if he turns the New York Giants organization around. Van Noy is correct on that front, but the hiring of Minter will also look like the right course if he can get Baltimore back into the postseason.

The Achilles heel for the Ravens has been the postseason, but the first season under Minter might point more to getting back into a winning record and making the postseason to be deemed "successful."

There is more than enough talent on both sides of the ball, and as Van Noy listed off names like Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton, the defense has the right kind of playmakers and leaders to turn things around.

It will just depend on everything gelling together in a significant way for the Ravens to get back to being the AFC threat they have been for multiple years.
