This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired All-Pro offensive lineman and CBS Sports analyst Kyle Long.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Long discussed his role as a remote analyst for NFL Christmas Gameday on Netflix on Thursday, December 25th, and his thoughts on the Kansas City Chiefs trading All-Pro guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears last offseason.
NFL Christmas Gameday 2025 will feature stars on both the gridiron and in the broadcast booth, including returning on-air talent such as the father-son duo of Ian and Noah Eagle, Netflix Sports Club's Kay Adams, and former NFL stars Drew Brees, Manti Te'o, and Nate Burleson. Long will be on the remote team, alongside host Scott Hanson, welcoming viewers during breaks in the action.
The Chiefs acquired a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and freed up much-needed salary cap space in the trade. Long explained that the deal may have been what the Bears needed to take the next step and what Kansas City lost this season.
"Joe Thuney, taking his talents to Chicago, was a championship move. That is a move by a guy, Ryan Poles (Bears General Manager), who was in Kansas City when they signed Joe Thuney, and what happened there two Super Bowls for Kansas City. Joe Thuney was an All-Pro. It was boring to watch, and if you're a fan of offensive line, boring is good," said Long. "Okay, there's not a lot of noise over there. I feel he takes that quiet style of play and a calm leadership style. He infuses a young group of guys in Chicago that don't necessarily have that bell cow, and he has become it, and guys like Darnell Wright, who are just wildly talented, can start to see what a real pro does and copy him. Now you've got five guys that are dancing the same dance, and it's scary every week."
