Carter Bryant continues to find a way to carve out a role for himself as a rookie with the San Antonio Spurs.

He's got one of those names that just feels like a basketball name, in large part because of the Bryant last name that brings to mind Kobe.

In fact, after Bryant was drafted, a rumor went viral that he's Kobe's nephew.

Not so fast, though.

Is Carter Bryant related to Kobe Bryant?​


No, he's not related to Kobe.

Despite the draft night rumor, there's no known genetic overlap here.

Who is Carter Bryant's dad?​


Carter Bryant's dad was a basketball player, but not Kobe. His name is D'Cean Bryant.

D'Cean was a quality college player at Long Beach State. In 114 college games, he averaged 8.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

From there, D'Cean became a coach at multiple high schools in California.

Who is Carter Bryant's mom?​


His mom is named Sabrina Torres.

She's been quoted as saying that Bryant was aspiring to be great even when he was 4 or 5 years old.

Carter Bryant aided by upbringing in deaf community​


Bryant is a grandchild of deaf adults.

His household spoke American Sign Language (ASL), and the first word he signed was "ball."

“If I’m guarding the ball and I have four other people behind me, you kind of have no idea what’s going on,” Bryant told The Athletic. “So being able to check out your peripherals, use your feet and just have a sense of natural feel for the game, it’s different. We take it for granted as players, and we don’t use our other senses as much, but we don’t have to.”
