It’s virtually a guarantee that Victor Wembanyama will use the San Antonio Spurs’ crushing NBA Finals loss to the New York Knicks to fuel him for the 2026-27 campaign.

The otherworldly 7-foot-4 center was phenomenal for most of the postseason, but likely understands that costly missed free throws in crunch time and a three-point-centered offensive approach played a role in the Spurs’ inability to prevail in the final round of the playoffs.

Interestingly, though, Wembanyama is currently receiving more flak for a decision he made at the conclusion of the Finals. Essentially, the 25-point, 11.5-rebound, 3.1 block star refused to shake hands with any Knicks player after the Spurs’ season-ending loss to the newly-crowned NBA champions on Saturday night.

Wembanyama isn’t the first runner-up to avoid handshakes after missing out on an NBA title. Still, the move has been widely regarded as classless and weak. Knicks star point guard Jalen Brunson clearly didn’t take too kindly to Wembanyama’s decision, and his two-word NSFW message to the former No. 1 overall pick proves that.

“(Expletive) Wemby,” Brunson said during an end-of-season toast with his teammates.

Although Brunson likely wasn’t thrilled with Wembanyama’s failure to give him the proper landing spot during a three-point attempt in Game 5 (which could have led to a significant injury), he probably would have committed to moving past it if the two-time All-Star had handled defeat in a respectable fashion.

Instead, Wembanyama made the worst possible blunder one could make following an unsuccessful playoff series, making it easy for Brunson to make a savage remark directed at the future Hall of Famer.

Hopefully, for Wembanyama’s sake, he’s able to shake off the sore loser label that’s been placed on him in the foreseeable future.
